1955 Chevrolet Truck – Chevrolet’s 1955 “first series” trucks were based on the 1948 Chevrolet Advance-Design trucks. Advanced-Designed trucks first arrived in the summer of 1947. All through the Advanced Design Era Chevrolet took first place in unit sales over their arch rival Ford.

The 1954 Chevrolet trucks and 1955 Chevrolet ‘first series” trucks had the most changes seen yet in the Advanced-Design series. Among the changes were a all new bolder grille, one piece windshield, larger 6 cylinder engine and optional Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.

The 1954 Chevrolet trucks were carried over as “first series” 1955 models on October 28, 1954. The only major change made at this time was replacing the old torque tube type drive shaft to a open drive shaft. The 1955 Chevrolet “first series” trucks lasted only three months.

Chevrolet named the “second series” trucks their “Task-Force” line. Their styling included the first wraparound windshield or as Chevrolet advertising called it a “Sweep-Sight Windshield” and “full view” rear window. Other new features included newly designed headlights, a classic egg crate grille similar to the 1955 Chevrolet cars, removal of running boards.
